Maintaining credibility

Very interesting video clip, just got round to watching it. Good old Noam, he represents my views perfectly. He touched on a point in that conversation which is in his hegemony book, which is that the US and related nations cried out against the attrocities that the Soviets and Nazis committed, but are either unaware or deceiving themselves when it comes to the US committing the same crimes. This is a very important point and I believe that this is where propaganda plays a very large role.
I often wonder if it is by chance i.e. a government decides to commit these crimes anyway regardless of the propaganda, or if right from the start they set out to deceive the public. Not just cover it up, but play one amazing curve ball to distract the populace from reality. I think the Iraq Dodgy Dossier was a result of this. I can only hope that the next Presidential administration and next UK government will learn from this mistake and proceed with a more honourable route. But I doubt it.

Blah balh hlab

Thank god (if you believe in that), I have made it to the last week of my notice period. I can't believe my job change is nearly here at long last. To say it has dragged out would be an understatement.

Saw the Departed the other night, fantastic film. Took a little while to get going, but when it does, brilliant. I must also recommend going to the Dominion cinema in Edinburgh and if you do get the comfy leather sofas with a foot stool. It is the only way to see film. Intermission included.

It is nice to see a lot more media attention around climate change. I'd like to see all those affluent mofos change their habits from reducing their car size, to making their kids go to private school on their own (i.e. getting public transport) and to start seeing them recyle their goods.

I am looking forward to the spring 2007 where I will be starting to grow my first crop of home grown veg. Now, where do I get a compost bin?

The nemex burns warmly

Just a quick post to say that I re-reading Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan. I had forgotten how great a sci-fi book it is. It is so noir and slick it is untrue. Totally recommend it. Kovacs kicks ass.

Departure time

There is a raft of new films coming up that look very exciting, I am just hoping that my optimism is not dashed (such as The Black Dahlia). I would recommend the following:

- The Departed
- The Good Shepard
- Babel
- Children of Men
- Casino Royale

I think what we are needing just now is some really good sci-fi films. We haven't had one for quite a long time. One that I would love to see is Richard Morgan's Altered Carbon.

That's all for now.
